Chankayas of contemporary politics descended on erstwhile Patilputra on big Friday - Nov 20,2015- when Poster boy of the emerging opposition unity in the world’s most populous democracy Nitish Kumar took reins of the populous Bihar state for the fifth time.
The winner Grand alliance (GA), better known
as “Mahgathbandhan” in Hindi,in a deft move, had organized the Grand show to
send a message to the Narenadra Modi Government at the center that the
Opposition leaders, cutting across party lines, are coming together, and things will
be tough for the Ruling National
Democratic Alliance (NDA) in near future.
Though the occasion
was a celebration, but it had its own political significance. Many ace
politicians were there to gauge potential of the GA to roll out as opposition
camps’ bandwagon in months to come.
NDA allies like Shiv Sena , currently vociferously
opposed to the Modi Government on a slew of issues, sent two of its Maharashtra
state Ministers in the function much to utter surprise of many, and Likewise,
Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal son of CM Prakash Singh Badal’s was there and shook
hands with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
who felt that the Bihar polls had given a
new direction to national politics. In Both Maharashtra and Punjab,
Regional players- Shiv Sena and Akali Dal, are heading the ruling coalitions
with BJP respectively.
Narendra Modi’s
representatives and Senior BJP leaders Venkaiha Naidu and Rajiv Pratap Rudy were
there as a drill of protocol and courtesy as Modi was personally invited by
Nitish Kumar .
Regional bigwigs
were there in large numbers and Congress Vice President Rahul
Gandhi, sporting broad smiles ,was seen mingling with every one, virtually
signaling to the center that situation on the ground is changing fast and the
coming winter session of the Parliament starting on November 26 will be an
action packed show . Many Present and former Chief Ministers of Congress party were
present . There are eight pending bills in the Lok sabha and 11 in Rajya Sabha. The Pending bills among others include the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and The Land reforms bill which is being examined by the Parliamentary committee.
It appeared that the
leaders were there for a net practice session ahead of political match on the
national hook up.The Bihar Verdict which propelled the Grand Alliance of the
Nitish Kumar ( JD-U), Lalu Prasad Yadav ( Rashtriya Janata Dal) and Congress
to the power has galvanized the opposition camps which were uprooted by
the Narendra Modi powered Tsunami in the 2014 General
elections for the Lok Sabha. And they
were highly marginalized.
Though the LS elections
are due only 2019,but in run upto that states after states will go the
polls to elect state assemblies . Ten state Assembly polls are due in the next
two years 2016-17). Next years five states &UT are due for the polls and
after that Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are set to for polls along with a few
others.
DMK Chief
M.Karunanidhi couldd not attend the show but had deputed his son M.K.
stalin who is running the party affairs along with him and others was
conspicuously present. Likewise JD (S) leader and former Prime Deve Gowda was
there along with Left parties stalwarts –Sitaram Yechuri and D. Raja. Surprisingly
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was having a friendly chat
with D R. Raja of CPI which is an arch rival of Mamata’s outfit Trinamool
Congress.
Guajarat which
is currently witnessing Civic polls was represented in the show by
Congress seniors from there and National
Democratic Congress (NCP)leader and Maharashtra strongman Sharad Pawar was also
there. Kerala Chief Minister Oman Chandy and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi
too were there, hinting that the GA might fledge in these two poll bound
states . Many north eastern states leaders were also on the guests lists
Delhi Chief Minister
Arvind Kejrwai ,who is really excited with the Bihar verdict in wake of his
ongoing tussels with the center despite sweeping mandate in Delhi assembly( 67
seats out of 70 seats in the Assembly) was mixing freely with all,but his
“historic hugs “ with RJD’s Lau Prasad Yadav was highlighted and many
political pundits were quoted on this. Many tried to convey that Arvind Kejriwal nurse no aversion to Lalu Prasad who was under his attacks in last 2014 polls
for corruption charges.
Now, leaders were
giving signal that they are one under GA and Maha-gathbandhan will be
replicated elsewhere too.Congress leaders are marinating silence on the
issue and are articulate on the crucial strategy .Asked on Nitish Potential as
future PM,a senior Congress man quipped he has the potential but he is not a
candidate and more over he can not remained encapsulated in the state politics.
For ever.
Samajwadi party
and Bahujan Samaj party ,main players in the Uttar Pradesh desh were
conspicuous by their absence but Some of the GA leaders ,including Lalu Parasd
Yadav and Former PM Deve Gowda who were to reachto Mulayam’s Village Safai, which was fully decked up to celebrate Mulayam Singh’s Birthday on Nivember 22 did not turn up because of last minute changes in programme. He turns 78 on this Sunday. As Lalu and Mulayam Singh are relatives and Yadav leaders , their
truck appears to be not so difficult because of political exigencies and Grand
alliance latent potential to hit bulls eye in forthcoming state Assembly polls
and 2019 General Elections.
Kautilyas of the
Modern days mutely observed developments and kept their cards close to their
hearts, but Veteran National Conference leader and Former JK Chief Minister
Farooq Abdullah who was there with his son Omar did not hide intentions when he
said Nitish Kumar Should now proceed to Delhi for the Prime Minister slot.
BJP leader and the
party MP Shatrughan Sinha in his latest tweet has described Rahul Gandhi as “rising
star”.
Informatively,Chanakaya
was an Indian Teacher, pholospher, master strtategist, economist ,jurist and
royal advisor to Chandragupta Maurya and his Son Bindusar in 372 BC .He was also
popular as Vishnu Gupta and Kautilya.
In coming winter
months, political temperature may shoot up when An upbeat Lalu Prasad yadav, embarks on
his nation wide tour to blow trumpet
against the central government . He has plans to first land in Modi’s Lok Sabha
Constituency in Varanasi with his election symbol Lantern to “grope for developmental work undertaken
by the PM there”.
