Eminent Educationist Prof. Pritam B Sharma hoists flag of concerns on poor quality education; seeks thorough review

As India basked in glory of its 70 years of Independence, An eminent educationist and President of the Association of Indian Universities Prof. Pritam B Sharma  today recalled an adage “the education builds nation but poor quality education destroys the nation beyond repairs” and called for a through revisit of the country’s Education system.
He  says in the context of pledge, taken on the eve of 71st Independence day celebrations, it becomes all the more important that we seriously ponder over the quality and relevance of education for nation building.

Dr sharma who is currently Vice Chancellor Amity University Gurugram said Education is not just Knowledge, it is the tripod of Knowledge, Character and Behavior.

India was a great India, in fact  the Golden Eagle of the world and what we often rejoice India as the Viswa Guru,  primarily because of the value system deeply focused on practicing truth, purity, and service with aatmiyata, empathy, with witch the Indian people presented themselves before their own society and the humanity, the world over, he said .

Inforamtively, Dr Sharma had echoed similar sentiments at the recently concluded World Education Summit 2017 in the Delhi.

“the reason we suffer today from an utterly poor environmental health, untold aggression, road rage, utter neglect of our duty even in the life saving sectors, such as health and civic services, is primarily because of our utter neglect of the dimensions of character and behavior in our education system in India from primary to university levels in the post-Independence era. “

“Seventy years is a long time for a nation, a generation change has taken place but still the education still remains, by and large, devoid of human values, also scientific values and work ethics that inspire a professional to work like a Mahatma. The privilege to serve, for a professional devoid of values becomes a ‘Privilege to Earn and a Privilege to exploit, though it was to be a Privilege of Serve and Excel’,” Says Dr Sharma who has also highlighted the concept threadbare in his recent book "Path to Excellence”.

Prof Sharma is a former Professor of IIT Delhi, Founder Vice Chancellor of DTU and also of RGTU and a highly reputed academician.
“So what we do now. The pledge we have taken on the eve of our 71st Independence Day should inspire us to revisit our education system at all levels and as we come to celebrate the teacher's day on September 5, to pay our reverence to one of the most illustrious son of Mother India, namely, Professor (Dr)  Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of Association of Indian Universities, AIU and 2nd President of India , let the Govt of India unveil   it's Education policy to empower Indian  education to revive the glory of India and rediscover  its education that made a man,  human by  it's thrust on integration of education with values”, says Prof PB Sharma .

Make no mistake that without our thrust on an education policy that makes Education Relevant to our local and global needs, neither the call of "Vasudha Ave Kutumbakam" can be served nor the education shall inspire the seekers of education to make education an empowerment to achieving the noble objective of making our country India, a Haven  on Earth as enshrined in the Vedic concept of  "Janni Janma Bhumascheya Swargadapi Gariyasi" ,warns Prof Sharma.
