PM SATISFIED WITH ANTI-TERROR STRATEGY; EX NSA MK NARYANAN SHOWS FAULT LINES

Even as prospects of foreign secretary level talks between India and Pakistan hang in balance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has noted with satisfaction that the decision making and its execution , the considerations  that into the tactical response to the terrorists attack at the Pathankot air base.

His tweet soon after the visit to  the Ground Zero  hailed valiant efforts put up by men and women on the ground  to thwart the attack .Seven security personnel were killed in the operations ,which according to many security experts, had lost precious  moments despite proper inputs of imminent strike in wake of fast unfolding developments including alleged kidnapping of the SP police. He also noted the coordination among field units.

The former national security adviser MK Narayanan was candid in his criticism and questioned rationality of talks. He wants. Pakistan to arrest Azhar Masood .he has lent his voice to the growing criticism and has asked reasons for not handing over the operation to Army unless  there were good reasons for not doing so.the reasons if any be made public .he in a TV show has also wondered that three commanding officers were changed during the most sensitive operation .

The operation Dhunga Sursksha which lasted for four days had left six  terrorists dead and search and combing operations  continued further to flush out any hiding terrorists and hidden ammunition.

With the republic day round the corner, security  has been beefed up in the national capital and other strategic points, amid reports that some terrorists might have infiltrated to carry out strikes. No Extra vigilance is warranted rather than getting sucked into debates at public platforms about alertness of the security forces.

“Noted with satisfaction the decision-making & its execution, the considerations that went into our tactical response,” the official handle of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted after Modi’s visit to the airbase.
“Also noted coordination among various field units. Lauded bravery & determination of our men & women on the ground. They are our pride,” the PMO said in another tweet.PM Modi also undertook an aerial survey of the forward positions along the India-Pakistan border.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army chief Dalbir Singh and chiefs of NSG and BSF were present during the visit. The NIA, which has taken over the probe into the attack, also briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of the investigation.

Punjab SP Saliwnder Singh’s interrogations and many other facts of the case, including pre- mature announcement of success of operations speaks volumes of the situation which needs to be reviewed for better and coordinated actions. It is not the time for blame game but quick and thorough introspection for plugging ,if they were really some, loop holes in the strategy .
