‘The Arctic. Made in Russia’ International Youth
Educational Forum, which brings together young scientists and specialists whose
spheres of interest are linked with studying the Arctic, kicked off in the
Arkhangelsk Region on March 27. The forum participants included 150 young
representatives of Russian science, including ten representatives of indigenous
minorities of the north as well as 25 young scientists from Arctic Council
countries, Italy, China, Germany, and a number of other countries.
Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov and Federal
Agency for Youth Affairs Deputy Director Alexey Palamarchuk welcomed the
participants during the opening of the Forum.
During the Forum, the participants will face the
challenge of creating an integrated model for the development of one of the
support zones of the Russian Arctic based on the example of the Arkhangelsk
Region. The projects created by the young specialists may later be used to
develop concepts for support zones in other Arctic regions of the country.
The participants in the ‘The Arctic. Made in Russia’
Forum will also come up with proposals to improve the country’s Arctic
legislation.
The initiative to involve young specialists in improving
legal standards related to the development of northern territories was
previously supported by Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexander
Tsybulsky.
The young people who demonstrate the much-needed
projects will be considered as candidates for jobs at the Ministry of Economic
Development and subordinate scientific institutions and will also have the
opportunity to undergo internships and then take jobs at companies that work in
Russia’s Arctic zone.
The third ‘The Arctic. Made in Russia’ International
Youth Educational Forum will take place from March 27 to April 2 as part of the
fourth ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Arctic Forum. The partners
of the Youth Forum include the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry
of Economic Development, Russian Geographical Society, Arkhangelsk Region
government, Gazprom and the Marine Arctic Geological Expedition (MAGE).
