Amarinder Singh Back as Punjab CM after 10 years but Challenges are enormous

Caption Amarinder Singh of Congress is back in Punjab, and he was sowrn as the State’s 26the Chief Minister along with his cabinet, but His stint will be full of challenges after ten years rule of the Akali  Dal – BJP.  People have pinned lot of hopes on the new dispensation after throwing out the incumbent government.
Challenges are of varied types in the sensitive border state which is pining to get rid of drug menace, massive unemployment, slow growth and poor civic facilities. Following his party’s rout in other states like Uttar Pradesh, challenge to resurrect the party on a robust platform rests on his shoulders. Party men feel that Punjab will be able to radiate positive vibes.
Punjab is near to the national capital, his government’s performance will always be under scanner and the Panjab government’s tackling of the state’s aspirations will reflect on the Congress party’s prospects in the bordering Himachal Pradesh which goes to poll next year. The elections are due there in fag end of this year and currently, Congress has got the government there under the leadership of Vibhadra Singh. He won polls in 2012 by seeking majority in 68 members house.
The new government will have to work on the shoe string budget of time as the general elections are due within two years. The state’s delivery on the promises will set tone and tenor for the general elections. Punjab has got 13 seats in the lower house of parliament and currently Congress has only three Lok Sabha seats . BJP  had won two seats and Akali dal four seats in 2014 elections when AAP had got four seats. In 2019, The team Modi will make comparison of the UP government in UP and Punjab government’s performance a big issue in the campaign.
Post UP elections, the Agenda of governance has changed, and the ruling party has to deliver on all fronts and mere sops like free ghee in schools, freebies  will not cut ice with voters. The new a narrative is writing on the wall with virtual decimation of the Akhilesh government in UP where he had distribuend free laptops, cycles and many other things, but the results spoke otherwise with BJP winning 325 seats in 403 members house.
The New Punjab team has to ensure firm governance and tight vigil on the law and order situation so that no fingers can be pointed towards it.
Amarinder Singh was administered the oath of office and secrecy by ethe Governor VP Singh Rathore. the Congress had won 77 seats in the Assembly  polls outclassing the Akali dal- BJP government which could win 18seats(with BJP –has only three in its pocket) in the 117 member house. AAP won 20 seats and its ally Lok Insaf party two.
The 75 year old Regional satrap, gained the power second time and he knows tricks of the governance but in the Narendra Modi era of governance, he has to match his oratory and skills for 2019 as this time, BJP may not tie up with Akali Dal and may go alone with Modi at the center of campaign.
The Maharaja as he was known, had been in action during the Indo –Pak  in 1965. He was the scion of  Patiala.
