Troika of Events – Lalu’s Patna Rally, AAP’s Bawana win & Cong. Ahmad Patel re-entry to RS – sounds like Bellwether Development; BJP to take note

A massive political rally –“BJP Bhagao- Desh Bachao”in Patna on Sunday may be dismissed by skeptics as a routine jamboree of political outfits longing to usurp power at the center in 2019 General elections, But the turn out speaks volumes of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s proficiency in holding such shows despite an avalanche of odds against him and his family, and in many ways the rally can turn out to be a bellwether development in political corridors. The Rally appears to have missed major public attention and screaming coverage on TV screens amid hullabaloo of Rapist Baba Ram Rahim’s exploits expose, but it has carried its own political significance coupled with low lying Arvind Kejriwala’s  Aam Aadmi Party ’s victory in Bwana by polls for a Delhi Assembly seat though the party had faced a lot of criticism on a slew of allegations in the recent past.  Votes were cast in EVMs equipped with VVPAT (Voter verifiable Paper Audit Trail). The Victory margin for AA...

India Coffee House@ Mall Road Shimla: A journey down memory lane

By Neeraj Bajpai If faded leather seats, old furniture, crockery, cutlery and cheap tissue papers cast first hand poor and shocking impression ,the moment one steps into historic Indian Coffee House at cool breeze bathed Mall Road in Shimla, Wafting aroma of hot coffee cups being served by traditionally dressed waiters swiftly revive nostalgic feel of this popular local joint. Despite poor maintenance, the place still bustles with liveliness and quietly pines for an immediate re-do. After all, the place is still a favorite rendezvous for locals who relish every moment and penny they spend there.  It is virtually packed with chattering crowd of regular visitors.  Many people find it a cheap place for breakfast – which certainly does not include Tea but serves south Indian dishes, crispy toast butter, omelets, cheese sandwiches etc. Ever since its inception, it has seen visitors from all walks of life and gossips of scandal point are always in the air. With election to...

Key Thrust on Relevance required in Research in Indian Universities: Say Educationists

In era of disruptive technologies, A proposal has been mooted to apply disruptive interventions in realms of higher education to spot Albert Einsteins among millennials to confer doctorate degrees to them for innovations and researches rather than pumping huge resources for academic researches mainly aimed at career enhancements. Indian Universities should now onward pay a much greater attention to Quality and Relevance of Doctorate degrees, and not just the numbers, to empower India with the knowledge and technology power to achieve both global esteem and national development goals- eminent educationist Professor PB Sharma, President AIU said while addressing the World Doctorate Day on Friday (25 th August, 2017) at Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU Delhi. “May be, we in India are at an opportune time in our universities to redefine the meaning of doctoral research in the “age of miracles and disruption”. Make no mistake. Professor Sharma said that the greatest Sc...

Haryana Mayhem exposes Shimla-Poanta Shaib Road Chinks

By Neeraj Bajpai It was a nail biting evening in a posh hotel at cool winds swept mall road in Shimla two days ago. We were anxiously planning safe return to National capital before any conflagration of violence by devotees of baba Ram Rahim, now convicted in rape case, engulfs all routes.   No authentic information on real situation on the ground was available, and rumors mills were churning out at a mad pace the worst scaring scenarios from Thursday itself and there was virtual panic among tourists in the hill state. It was Thursday morning, a day before the judgement date, We hurriedly planned to embark on a safe escape route to Delhi by our own vehicle rather being stuck for days together in hills of Himachal Pradesh. A forceful torrent of advisories were being fired on us in those tense moments, but we chose to take presumed safe route via Nahan –Paounta Sahib-Dehradun. It was an adventure of different type: Courtesy HP government’s poor maintenance of...

Khadi in Vogue; Wheels of Charkha bustling afresh

More than a century ago , when Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa, he had not seen a spinning wheel- Charkha- but during the Swadeshi movement, he meticulously spun the Khadi in the national life style. Alas! Luster of the fabric faded in mills of time, but, now, the Khadi is in vogue again. Hauling heavy cart of statistics of Khadi products sales, during last three years, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has reported nearly 33 per cent growth in sale of Khadi products to Rs.2,005 crore in the fiscal 2016-17 from Rs. 1,510 crore a year ago. The ground  reality check reveals mounting foot falls at the Khadi sales outlets though Sceptics nurse doubts on vaulting sale figures. Known for natural luster and rough texture, Khadi strands of late have turned livewire ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched   Khadi promotion blitz in his talk shows on radio waves three years ago. He hardly loses an opportunity...
