Free Medical Camp should be for creating health awareness not for showering freebies: Health Care providers Association, Delhi/NCR President PN Arora
It was another day,
but it was different in more ways than one. It was the day to remember Dr Bhim
Rao Ambedkar, renowned social reformer ,on his 126th Birthday Anniversary.
I woke up
early in the morning and after routine practice of meditation, I landed myself
in a free medical camp organized on the occasion by Yashoda super specialty
hospital in its campus at Kaushambi on borders of the national capital and Ghaziabad.
A large number of people were milling around in the camp which had opened its
flood gates for free medical checkup, surgeries , tests, MRI, stents fixation, orthopedic,
Surgeries,etc.
Wondering who will
finance such huge bills, I groped for answers, but owner and managing director
of the super specialty hospital Dr PN Arora avoided the answer and simply said
sincere intentions were paving way for the task. He tried to impart personal
touch to maximum number of people jostling with each other to get themselves
registered for checkups.
Surprisingly,
doctors who were attending the patients were fully engrossed in the free work
much to surprise of many onlookers who had envisioned minting machines in
doctors at many places. Both Dr Arora and his wife Upasana were seen searching
for really needy patients to ensure that they get treated on priority basis.

Dr Arora
explained logic behind the free camp and said it was in tune with his
perception that most of people choose to avoid routine checkup due to cost
involved but once they visit such camps and get themselves checked up, they
know of their diseases and get it cured in time.
In most of cases
people come to know of diabetes, Bp, cataract, skin diseases, heart ailments
etc. By this way, serious disease are detected and avoided saving them from other
problems like domestic frustrations, financial problems and pressure on hospitals.
A bunch of healthy people waited patiently not for medical check but free lunch
organized on the occasion.
Dr Arora,
known philanthropist and President of Health Care Providers Associations of India,
Delhi and NCR said The New National Health Policy (NHP),announced by the
Federal Government recently holds
great hopes for millions of common people for whom ailment issues
perennially take heavy toll of their health and financial resources. The camp is in consonance of the new policy’s approach to
create healthy society by preventing diseases in time. A stich in time saves nine,
he said.

Informatively, The health
Ministry proposes increase in the health expenditure to 2.5 per cent of the GDP
against, the existing level of 1.2 per cent of the GDP. He said the new policy aims for attainment of the highest possible
level of health and well-being for all at all ages, through a preventive and
promotive health care orientation in all developmental policies, and universal
access to good quality health care services without anyone having to face
financial hardship as a consequence.
