Professionals of New Knowledge Age-Innovate & Excel: Educationist Prof. P B Sharma

“Make no mistake that the capabilities of a man are of no use what so ever to the society unless these are practiced in the domain of high personal integrity and with a humane face of science and technology”.

It was crux of the advice offered by the Prof (Dr.) PB Sharma, Former VC Delhi Technological University at the convocation address of Dr Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University recently.

In his address to the graduates, Dr Sharma, currently VC Amity  University said the new knowledge age, promises “abundance of prosperity alongside with happiness in plenty” provided we use our science and technology capabilities for the service of man and Mother Nature, strike the vital harmony between man and nature and create a beautiful world around for peaceful co-existence with our fellow citizens beings in this country and also in the countries of the world around.
He continued to say “it is here the age old emphasis on peace, prosperity, truthfulness, purity of mind and work excellence forms the five-fold panchsheels of human excellence.
Often in our quest to acquire qualifications in our institutions and universities we pay only a little attention to these five elements of human endeavors which form an essential component of individual’s conduct and behavior.
Ultimately what counts is not what you, as the young Gradands of the new knowledge age, thus bear a heavy responsibility on your shoulders to nurture and cultivate these panchsheels of human excellence during your work life hereafter as you are well equipped with the capabilities of science, technology and modern scientific management of the globalized connected world.

People of this country and for that reason the mankind at large have very high hopes from you and I am sure you would live up to the expectations of the people of this country and humanity at large as you belong to the heritage of Bharatvarsha,  the India of the globalised age.

People like you, empowered with the “Wings of Knowledge” coupled with capabilities of science and technology of modern times must therefore ensure that you contribute your very best to the creation of the developed India of our dream, an India materially highly prosperous, inhabited by a spiritually elevated human society, bringing glory to our motherland and the humanity at large. You must therefore, today on your Deekshant Day, pledge to be a part of the great India success story of tomorrow.

I have every reason to believe that during your stay at this premier university you must have nurtured in you a strong moral and ethical foundation for the world of work and enlightenment in which the fourth generation professionals like yourselves are entering into at such exciting times of the third millennium.

On this day of celebration of your success, let me wish you several decades of enlightened professional life full of glittering success and pride in your profession.

A small piece of advice on this day, the Deekshant Day, that you should be thankful to your parents and your teachers but also to God Almighty for giving you this privilege to be a human empowered with tremendous opportunities to make this world better.
But do not just look towards God, for everything and every time for solving the problems of hunger, unemployment, disease, environmental pollution, climate change and for creating employment in plenty. Let you, the children of God, recognize that it is you and you alone, with the blessings of God Almighty and the presence of Divinity within  can create a better world, a bright future for mankind on Mother planet earth.

On this occasion, when you are receiving your Degrees and Honors from your university in the august presence of the Hon’ble Chancellor, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and your Gurus, the teachers and your mentors, may I pray that throughout your life you will live up to the high expectations of the people of this country and bear true faith to the Degree and insignia you have received today.

We have a lot of such evils to eradicate, like enormous air and water pollution, Climate Change, outbreak of Viruses and ever mounting pressure of rapid depletion of natural recourses. You the professionals of the knowledge age, have to wage a war on Air and Water Pollution and create an healthy and peaceful environment for a life full of bliss and fulfillment.

You must be highly excited, as our Nation today, is marching ahead on the path of progress and prosperity, with our nation’s economy growing at around 7% of the GDP, making our country as the 6th largest economy in the world, only next to US, China, Japan, Germany and UK. This is when we are yet to fully reap the benefits of a good number of National Missions like Swachha Bharat, Make in India, Skilling India, Startup and Standup India, Digital India and accelerate our march on the cultivation of intellectual capital in our university campuses.

Surely, great times are ahead for us, as the call of making a new India of our dream has given a developmental goal for all of us, the people of India.

In this hour of national development, while great many reforms and meaningful initiatives are being mounted by our Central as well as State Governments, it becomes our responsibility that we contribute our share of national development by giving our very best to the service of country and for the wellbeing our community.

On one hand, the great scientific advancements are paving the way for unleashing the enormous power of Innovation, creating Innovation in plenty, causing major breakthroughs and technology advancements through quantum jumps in areas like Nano-materials and composites, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data analysis together with major advancement of Robotics and automation and internet of things, IoT, together creating an altogether new work environment driven by a tech-savvy automated and connected world. But, on the other these new developments are also posing a great threat of major disruption of our work activity and life style, and distracting us from pursuit of a meaningful activity that is related to mindfulness and heartfulness.

New emerging technologies are in offering to solve some of the formidable problems. The solar and renewable energy technologies have emerged as cost effective eco-friendly solutions to our energy security and in the next few years, we shall be shifting our entire energy needs to solar and other green energy technologies. Likewise the mobility engineering, transportation on road as well as in air is going to undergo a sea change due to electric cars and vehicles run on high energy storage batteries, charged by solar energy.

You will also witness whole lot of changes in the way businesses are conducted and corporate are managed. Likewise, green manufacturing, molecular manufacturing, beyond 3D printing, new and smart material, biodegradable polymers and other such  developments are giving us a new hope of zero waste manufacturing and zero defect engineering. But major disruption of manufacturing and service sector are also becoming quite visible as new networked, automated and integrated assembly lines, e-banking, e-marketing, e-education and e-services become more and more capable of penetrating deep into the digital economy in the new digital age in which the nations of the world, including India have taken a deep pledge. You the young Graduands have to work in such a tech-savvy environment.

Let you aspire to always to assimilate the latest developments in your area of your chosen professional domain and let you aspire to learn beyond the frontiers of knowledge visited by your peers. Let you innovate and excel and bring added pride to your Alma-mater, Dr. RML University and also make your teachers, Kulpati, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and your Hon’ble Chancellor, Kuladhipati Ji proud of your good deeds and outstanding accomplishments.

Let you uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional morals, expected from people of knowledge in the new age of enlightenment and glory.

Let you go out and create a better world, where you could hold your head high and keep your mind free from the worries of today’s nagging problems of traffic jams, enormous air and water pollution which we have created by our madness and utter neglect of Mother Nature and unabated exploitation of its precious natural resources. Let you keep your focus on solving the problems of poverty, hunger, disease and ignorance that you, the young Graduands of the new age are capable of solving. “
