Pandemic coronavirus infects 5.10 million & killed 332,924 globally, India reports biggest single day jump of over 6000 cases; US to fly flags half to honor coronavirus victims
More than 5.10 million coronavirus cases, including 332,924 deaths, have been recorded globally this morning. India cases surge past 1.18226 lakh. As per UK official sources, it has 250,908 positive cases and 36042 deaths.
India has recorded 6,088 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours – the biggest single-day jump in numbers – Health Ministry data showed this morning, with 148 deaths reported in the same period. This takes the total number of cases to 1.18 lakhs and total deaths to 3,583. There are 66,330 active COVID-19 cases in the country.

The US has so far reported 1,577,147 cases, and 94702 deaths, according to John Hopkins University. The New York state death toll is the highest with over 28,743 deaths. It has reported 1255 deaths in the last 24 hours.
In the US, as three million people claimed unemployment allowances, the figure now hovers around 36.5 million.
Gathering together at the top UN intergovernmental body in Asia and the Pacific on Thursday, countries of the vast region of more than four billion people, urged greater measures that reinforce global solidarity in ending the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a resolution adopted on Thursday, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) declared “profound solidarity” with the countries and people affected by the disease and resolved “to pursue coordinated and decisive actions, to contain, mitigate and defeat the pandemic through reinforced regional and global cooperation.”
“[The Commission] reiterates the importance of multilateralism and international cooperation, and encourages action by all members … to promote measures that may reinforce global solidarity in responding to the outbreak of COVID-19”, read the resolution, which was tabled by the Chair and co-sponsored by several of the Commission member States.
International and regional cooperation was also highlighted as a means to strengthen the resilience of the region’s countries, with regard to the socio-economic effects of pandemics and other related crises.
Recovering from COVID-19 provides an opportunity to “build back better” in the region, added the text, “including by building more equal, inclusive and sustainable institutions, economies and societies that respect human rights and are more resilient in the face of any future pandemic, and other related crises faced by the region, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

There is still a long way to go in battling the pandemic, according to director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Tedros. “It assigns responsibilities for both the WHO [World Health Organization] and its member States, and captures the comprehensive whole of government and whole of society approach we have been calling for since the beginning of the outbreak”, he said.
He pointed out that in the last 24 hours, WHO had received reports of 106,000 cases, “the most in a single day since the outbreak began”, with nearly two-thirds in just four countries.
“We’re very concerned about the rising numbers of cases in low and middle-income countries”, flagged the WHO chief.

South Africa has reported 19137 cases and 369 deaths. Likewise, Belarus has reported 33,311 cases and 185 deaths in the WHO’s European region that covers 54 countries. In the region. Armenia has clocked 83 percent swing in the last 14 days vis-a-vis cases in the previous 14 days. It has reported 5606 cases and 70 deaths.
The Russian Federation has reported 317,554 coronavirus positive cases with 3099 deaths.
Brazil has also touched a grim milestone of having more than 310,087 cases with about 20,017 deaths. Mexico has reported 65077 cases and 6010 deaths.
After confirmation of cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in a vast and overcrowded refugee camp in Bangladesh, UN humanitarians have announced additional measures and appealed for funds to prevent the disease from spreading.

According to Johns Hopkins University today, a total of 5,103,424 COVID -19 positive cases are there across the world, and another 332,924 people lost lives.
The UK has reported a total of deaths 252,246 cases and 35124 deaths so far Singapore has 29,364 cases and 22.deaths. In Norway, there are 8309 cases and 235 deaths.
In Pakistan, the total number of 48,097 cases is reported so far with 1017 deaths. In Afghanistan, the case figures stand at 8676 and 193 7 deaths.
In Saudi Arabia, 65,077 cases surfaced with 351 deaths. Iran has reported a total of 7249 deaths and 129,341 cases. In UAE, The death toll is 237, and cases are 26,898.
In Bangladesh, over 28511 cases were reported and it has lost 408 lives. In Sri Lanka, 1027 cases came into light with nine deaths only.
In the WHO’s European region of 54 countries, a total 1,911,994 cases were reported so far with 168,047 deaths.
Spain has so far reported 233,031 cases, and 27,940 deaths, while Italy’s death toll remained at 32,486, and cases mounted to 228,006.
In Germany, there are 178,473 cases and over 8144 deaths. France has reported 181,700 cases and 28, 8006 135 deaths against Japan’s 16367 cases and 768 deaths.
Sweden has reported more than 3871 deaths and 32172 cases. Canada has reported 84742 cases and 6,267 deaths.
WHO has warned about 1, 90,000 people may die in the African region if adequate steps were not taken for the containment.
