Job insecurity: Men & women experience similar rates of anxiety

As more people work temporary gigs with little protection or fear layoffs in an unstable economy, job insecurity is on the rise. These stresses understandably contribute to poor mental health and feelings of anxiety. But given gender disparities in the workforce – women are more likely to work temporary jobs and receive lower pay – researchers were curious whether job insecurity affected men and women differently.   A study published in  Frontiers in Sociology  analyzed data from the European Working Conditions Survey, looking at results from 2005, 2010, and 2015. The survey asked people to what extent they thought they might lose their job in the next six months and whether they had experienced anxiety over the last 12 months.   The study found that, in Europe, men and women actually reacted to job insecurity fairly similarly. Pandemic coronavirus infects 5.10 million & killed 332,924 globally, India reports biggest single day jump of over 6000 cases; US to fly flags half to honor coronavirus victims

More than 5.10 million  coronavirus cases, including 332,924 deaths, have been recorded globally this morning. India cases surge past 1.18226 lakh. As per UK official sources, it has 250,908 positive cases and 36042 deaths. India has recorded 6,088 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours – the biggest single-day jump in numbers – Health Ministry data showed this morning, with 148 deaths reported in the same period. This takes the total number of cases to 1.18 lakhs and total deaths to 3,583. There are 66,330 active COVID-19 cases in the country. Pandemic infections top 5 million & killed 328,000 globally;India cases surge past 1.12 lakh

By Neeraj Bajpai  More than 4.99 million  coronavirus cases, including 328,115 deaths, have been recorded globally this morning with Brazil reporting 1,179 deaths in the last 24 hours and India cases surge past 1.12 lakh. There is still a long way to go in battling the pandemic, according to director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Tedros. “It assigns responsibilities for both the  WHO  [World Health Organization] and its member States, and captures the comprehensive whole of government and whole of society approach we have been calling for since the beginning of the outbreak”, he said. He pointed out that in the last 24 hours, WHO had received reports of 106,000 cases, “the most in a single day since the outbreak began”, with nearly two-thirds in just four countries. “We’re very concerned about the rising numbers of cases in low and middle-income countries”, flagged the WHO chief.
